Xbox Game Pass Core, previously known as Xbox Live Gold, is the premium version of the Xbox network service on the Xbox 360, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. With it, users can not only play games against other people online but also get access to collection of over 25 premium games each month and member offers and discounts and Free to Play Days.

Users only need one Xbox Game Pass Core subscription per console on Xbox One, which lets everyone in the family play online multiplayer with their own accounts. In contrast, with the Xbox 360, each account has to have its own subscription.

On September 14, 2023, Xbox Live Gold got superseded by Xbox Game Pass Core, which gives players access to multiplayer capabilities, a select collection of over 25 games to play, and exclusive member deals for a subscription fee of US$9.99 per month or US$59.99 per year[1].

Features[]

Features that are included in a Core subscription include the ability to play online multiplayer although free-to-play titles do not require an Xbox Game Pass Core subscription to play multiplayer. Also included in the subscription are weekly member offers and discounts and a collection of over 25 games, and Video Kinect on the Xbox 360.

Games with Gold was a program in which digital downloads of games are offered at no charge to subscribers. Games with Gold originally launched for the Xbox 360 in July 2013, while the feature was added for Xbox One in June 2014. The program ended on September 1, 2023.

Xbox 360 subscribers receives a game twice per month, while Xbox One subscribers receives two games once per month. Games downloaded through the program on Xbox 360 are free to own with no further restrictions. Xbox One Games with Gold titles require active Xbox Live Gold subscription in order to use, and become locked and unplayable if the subscription lapses.

As of November 2015, all Games with Gold titles for Xbox 360 are available through backwards compatibility on Xbox One.

On July 6, 2022, Xbox announced that the number of Xbox 360 games that could be included with Games with Gold had been reached. As a result, no further Xbox 360 games would be included in the program and the number of games available each month would drop from four (two Xbox One and two Xbox 360 games) to only two (two Xbox One games)[2].

On July 17, 2023, Xbox announced that Games with Gold will be ending on September 14, 2023.[3]
