Super Bomberman R 2 is the sequel of Super Bomberman R developed by Konami. The game was released on September 12, 2023 on various platforms and marks the franchise's 40th Anniversary.

Story

A giant robotic black moon ruled by a new species is threatening to destroy Planet Bomber. It's up to the 8 Bomberman Bros and their new friends, to team up and stop the new monsters and their leader.

Battle Mode

Castle Mode

Build your own defenses on the Castle side and defend from the challenge of the attackers.

This mode can be played up to 16 Players, 1 Vs 15. It is divided into two teams; "Attack Side" (15 players) and "Castle Side" (1 Player). The "Attack Side" consisting of an army of 15 players whose goal is to collect the key and get to the treasure, and the "Castle Side" with only 1 player, whose goal is to build defenses to prevent the other side to get the key and reach the treasure.

• The Attack Side: Find the keys in the stage to get the treasure chests protected by the Castle Side. Obtain treasure chests by touching them while holding a key.
• The Castle Side: Defend the treasure chests from the Attack side until the clock runs out. You can use Gimmicks and Ellons in the stage as well as weapons to ward off the Attack side.

Grand Prix Mode

This mode is for 2 teams of 3 players that battle with two main modes:

• Basic Bomber: Score for each team based on the number of opponent defeated.
• Crystals: Score for each team based on the number of crystals collected.

Battle 64

A battle royale game mode where players fight for survival. This mode can be played with up to 64 players, with 63 others as CPUs or other players from around the world. As with the Grand Prix mode, the characters have different stats. Instead of having players in a big arena, the players are evenly divided into multiple areas with four players in each area.

All rounds last for one minute, except for the final round, which lasts three minutes. Between each round, there is a 15-second Movement Phase in which new blocks will fall and some areas will close.

Standard Mode

Up to 16 players compete in this mode. The team or player that survives until the end of each set is the winner of that current set.

Level Editor

Players would be able to create their own battle maps to be used for the Castle Mode, and share them with other players. There is a large variety of objects and other traps at the player's disposal that could be used to build the maps. Once the map is finished, the player can playtest it and then could decide to upload it and share it with other players. Players would then be able to download it and play with it.

Development

The game was showcased at the Tokyo Game Show 2022, held from September 15 to September 18. Super Bomberman R 2 also had a special event held on September 17, featuring the Castle Mode. Eco bags with the Super Bomberman R 2 motifs were also offered to the persons who played the game.

The game was promoted alongside the release of BomberPino through a commemorative campaign from October 9 to November 23, 2023.
