Overlord II is a 2009 third-person shooter action-adventure game developed by Triumph Studios and published by Codemasters for Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 3[2]. It is the sequel to the 2007 video game Overlord.
Story[]
The story is to be written once more by Rhianna Pratchett (daughter of famous British novelist Terry Pratchett) and follows the events of the first Overlord, where players will take control of the previous Overlord's descendent, implied during the ending of Overlord: Raising Hell who as an infant has been smuggled away to the frozen mountain lands of Nordberg from a Roman-inspired civilization known currently as the "Glorious Empire", bent on eradicating known magical creatures. Other races set to appear thus far include thieving Gnomes and environmental activist motivated Elves,[3] this allowing other elements besides fantasy such as politics, environmental issues and similar real-world problems to be parodied within the game.[2]
Gameplay[]
According to Lennart Sas, director and Overlord lead at Triumph Studios, Overlord II "massively increases the scope of the original concept".[2] The environment is designed to allow more diversity. An icy realm called "Nordberg" (which translates from various Germanic languages as "North Mountain"), a Magic Sanctuary Domain and the cities and territories of the Glorious empire are cited as new locations so far.[2]
The gameplay of the first game (which consisted of controlling the Overlord who in turn sent his minions to do most of the work) has been retained for this sequel, but, according to Sas, it has been greatly expanded. The intelligence and destructiveness of the minions have been improved and the new AI is able to do more things than before, such as "riding mounts, using war machines and sailing warships".[2] Sas also says that controls and visuals have been improved to make the game more attractive to a broader audience.[2] It has been said in a Eurogamer interview that minions can be named, so the player feels more attached to it. If a minion you are fond of dies, he can be resurrected at a Minion Graveyard.
