NBA 2K is a basketball simulation series based off of the National Basketball Association. The series has always been developed by Visual Concepts and was originally published by Sega Sports up until 2004. 2K Sports is the current publisher of all the NBA 2K games.

The franchise has made its way to almost all video game platforms released since the sixth-generation, this includes PCs and a range of mobile devices. Every NBA 2K title since 2K2, has been released on an Xbox platform.

Until 2018, the series' primary rival was EA Sports' NBA Live series

There are twenty-four games in the NBA 2K franchise, with the most recent being, NBA 2K24, released in September 2023.

The first game in the series, NBA 2K was released in 1999 exclusively for the Sega Dreamcast. A game has been released for the franchise every year since then.
