My Games & Apps
Developer(s) Microsoft
Release Date(s) 2013
Platform(s) Xbox One, Xbox Gen 9

My Games & Apps is an app that is included with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S operating systems. It can be accessed via their respective dashboards or on the guide. It is used to navigate through the users games, apps, groups and memberships.

The app has been updated a number of times since the Xbox One's launch in 2013. With a range of different designs and features being added and changed in each update.

Options[]

My Games & Apps has six different tabs to navigate through (eight if the logged in account has a Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass subscription), all including a range of different options. A small part of the screen on the app always shows how much storage is on the console and the progress made on an installation.

Games[]

Games-tab-nxe

The games tab.

The Games tab displays all games that are installed on either the console or a connected hard drives.

Titles can be sorted in alphabetical order, by the last time the game was launched, by the last time the game was updated or by the size of the game. Games can also be grouped alphabetically and by what platform they were designed for.

There are also a number of options that can be used to filter through games on this tab. They include genres, multiplayer types, games from a specific platform and the location which games are stored.

The sizes of the icons on this screen can also be changed.

Other options include a search box and the Surprise me! option which randomly selects a game from the users library.

Apps[]

The Apps tab includes the same options as the Games tab, excluding the Surprise Me! option.

A number of apps are installed by default including Microsoft Edge and Xbox Assist.

My-games-and-apps-groups

The Groups tab.

Groups[]

Groups (formerly pins), is the part of the app that allows users to create and manage groups of games and apps.

Groups are essentially folders for games and apps. Users can create Groups of games and apps and name it whatever they would like. For example a user could create a group called "Racing games" then add all the games they have on their Xbox One that are related to racing (e.g. Forza Motorsport 7, The Crew 2). These groups can then be added as a content block to the home screen for quick access.

Just like the Games and Apps sections, the tiles can be resized.

Full library[]

The full library tab includes a range of quick shortcuts to the users games library. Links to Xbox Games Pass and EA Access are also provided on this tab.

All owned games[]

Displays all games that are owned digitally. Content can be filtered, sorted and searched through just like on the main Games screen. This screen also includes games that are not installed on the console.

All owned apps[]

Essentially the same as the Apps tab but also displays apps that are not installed on the console.

Games with Gold[]

Shows what Games are available for free through Games with Gold for the selected month. Games that are also being owned through the program are displayed here too.

Game Pass[]

The Game Pass tab is only displayed if the logged in account has an Xbox Game Pass subscription. In this tab the user can manage all of the games that are included with Game Pass just like in the Game Pass tab on the Xbox One Dashboard.

Gold[]

Just like with the Game Pass Tab, the Gold tab is only available if the logged in account has a Xbox Live Gold subscription. In this tab, users can view the available Games with Gold for the month and other deals with Gold.

My-games-and-apps-manage

The Manage tab.

Manage[]

The manage tab includes links to various settings regarding games and apps. Other settings can be toggled on and off on this tab including automatic updates and remote installation

Queue[]

The Queue tab of the app displays all games and apps that are currently being installed or updated. Details on how much of the installation has completed and the speed of the download are also shown on whatever is downloading.

At the top of the screen the five most recently installed items are displayed.

Other options within this part of the app include, pausing, cancelling or resuming one or all of items installing.

Updates[]

The Updates tab displays all games and apps that require updating. By selecting a tile that is in this section, a screen will pop up asking the user to confirm the update. If yes is selected the tile will move from the Updates section to the Queue section.

Storage[]

Shows how much storage is available on the internal hard drive and other external drives. Other options here include the ability to clear locally saved games.

Free up space[]

If a game has been uninstalled and add-ons for the game are still installed on the console, they will appear here.

This tab also lets users shrink certain games, decreasing the file size while also allowing the game to be played.

Trivia[]

  • As of the New Xbox Experience Dashboard update, the My Games & Apps tile displays the icons of three of the user's games instead of a plain grey tile.
