Microsoft Corporation, or simply Microsoft, is an American multinational technology corporation headquartered in Redmond, Washington. Founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen on April 4, 1975, Microsoft rose to dominance in the personal computer operating system market with the release of MS-DOS in 1981, followed by the release of Windows in 1985.
Since the 1990s, Microsoft diversified from the operating system market to include web browsers (Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge), office and productivity suites (Microsoft Office), Internet search (Bing), telecommunications (Skype), digital services (through MSN), and video game consoles.
Microsoft's first video game console, the Xbox was released in 2001; it has since been succeeded by the Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
