The Grey Controller S was a variant of the regular Controller S that was only released in Japan. It was released in 2002. The controller was also imported to America.
Design[]
The controller has transparent A,B,Y,X buttons. There is also a Green Jewel in the middle of the controller. The D-Pad has also changed, making it look a bit similar to the other D-Pad.
Overview[]
After the Xbox was released in Japan, the Japanese disliked the Duke so much because it wasn't suitable for their hands as they had smaller hands compared to the Americans. So, the Japanese side of Microsoft started developing their own Xbox controller. The controller went through many prototype phases with some having similar buttons to the Sega Genesis and Saturn. Some were transparent as others had a grey shell as well. Very soon in early 2002 the Controller S finally was released as it was the first known version of the controller S. Soon after they developed a black version as well. Meanwhile in North American and in the EU others really wanted a version of the Controller S, as they then started releasing the Controller S in America and the EU but it being black and have the middle logo being the startup logo instead of the bright green version. Japan kept developing the Grey and Black version until late 2005 as the Controller S was later used as being one of the main controllers for the Xbox.
