Forza Motorsport 3 is a 2009 racing video game developed for the Xbox 360 by Turn 10 Studios. It is the sequel to Forza Motorsport 2 and the third installment in the Forza series.

Gameplay[]

Forza Motorsport 3 introduces a range of new features into the series that would go on to become standards in future entries in the series. New additions include an in-car driving view, one button assisted driving, vehicle rollover with detailed undercarriages, drifting, drag racing, and SUVs.

Additionally Forza Motorsport 3 was the first title in the series to have rewind. A feature that allows the player to travel back to a certain part in the race. Rewind can be used an unlimited amount of times but a 30 second cool down is put in between each use of the feature.

Game modes[]

Upon launching the game, the player is presented with a screen that gives three options. One being to launch the main menu, another being free play and the final being the Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

Forza Motorsport[]

If the first option is selected, the player is met with the main menu of the game which include eight different options.

Go race[]

Choosing this option gives the player the ability to either continue Season Play (campaign), view upcoming and completed events as a part of season play, and access online multiplayer.

Cars[]

This tab allows the player to view all of their purchased cars and buy additional cars from either the Autoshow or Auction House.

Upgrade[]

There are eight different options present within the upgrade tab. Most of which allow the user to buy and purchase parts to customize their car. Parts can either being purchased and applied through a quick upgrade which will select a class for the car and then automatically calculate which upgrades can be afforded and then instantly apply them to the players currently selected car or by buying the parts manually.

Tuning can also be accessed within this screen which lets the player improve the car's performance by adjusting its tire pressure, gear ratios, wheel alignment settings, suspension settings, brakes, downforce and differential.

Stats for the currently selected car can also be viewed here as well as the ability to test drive the car and view other saved setups.

Paint[]

Much like the name implies, the paint option allows the user to customize their car by painting their car, applying decals and vinyls and tinting the cars windows.

Storefront[]

The storefront is the players portal to sharing files with the entire community. Here players can buy, sell and share tuning setups, car liveries, vinyl groups, photos and view replays of races.

Leader boards[]

Here players can view leader boards for various parts of the game.

My Profile[]

Player progress and other stats can be found here, as well as the players photos, replays and movies. This tab also acts as the games settings, allowing the player to change their controller layout, HUD and audio settings.

Set Difficulty[]

Opponent difficulty and player assists can be customized here.

Free Play[]

Aside from the main campaign of the game Forza Motorsport 3 also has a free play mode with a range of different options.

Quick Race[]

Jump into any car available in the game, set your assists and difficulty and then choose any of the tracks to race on in the game against AI controlled opponents.

Hot Lap[]

Much like Quick Race, Hot Lap gives the player access to all cars and tracks in the game. The only difference being that there are no opponents and the main goal is to post the fastest time possible on any of the available tracks in the game.

Split Screen[]

Two players can race against each other with up to two additional AI opponents in any of the cars available in the game on any of the tracks in the game.

Xbox LIVE MARKETPLACE[]

The final tab gives access to all DLC that can be purchased for Forza Motorsport 3. Since the game has been delisted from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace, all car and track packs can no longer be purchased, meaning that they are no longer present within this tab.

The only content that is still available to purchase is a number of Forza Motorsport 3 avatar items.

Trivia[]

  • Forza Motorsport 3 was the first Forza game to have rewind, which has been featured in every subsequent title.
  • The game was featured in the 2011 movie, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules”, around the 16:17 mark to the 16:20 mark in the pile of Gregs games.
