The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Cliffhanger Demo was released on August 4, 2010, available for the Xbox Live Marketplace and the PlayStation Network store. The demo includes the Cliffhanger mission from Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.
The loading credits of the game have the copyright year of 2009 even though the demo was released halfway through 2010, possibly showing that it was originally made in 2009 but released at a later date.
