Australian Classification Board

The Australian Classification Board (unofficially ACB) is an Australian government statutory body that is responsible for the classification and censorship of films, video games and publications for exhibition. The Australian Classification Board was established in 1970 and was once part of the Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) until 2006 when the OFLC was dissolved.

The Australian Classification Board assigns ratings to game based on set categories and depending on the level of each category present within the media depends on the rating assigned to a particular video game. The Australian Classification Board does not directly censor material by ordering cuts, changes or removals. However, they are able to effectively censor media by refusing classification and making it illegal to hire, exhibit and import the material to Australia.
