Plot[]
The framing story takes place in 2012 where the main protagonist, Desmond Miles, has fallen into coma during the events of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and must relive the memories of his ancestors through the Animus device in an attempt to awaken and find a way to avert the December 21, 2012 apocalypse.
The main story takes place in 1511–1512 and follows the old-aged protagonist Ezio Auditore da Firenze who travels to Constantinople in the Ottoman Empire to find the keys needed to unlock a vault built three centuries earlier by Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad. As he searches for the keys, Ezio ends up caught in a feud between the Ottomans and the Byzantines, and discovers that the Templar Order are also attempting to unlock Ibn-La'Ahad's vault and its secrets.
