Achievements are digital rewards given to players after completing a certain objective in a game. Unlocking achievements rewards the player with gamerscore. Achievements were first introduced on the Xbox 360 and have since been on every subsequent Xbox console as well as Windows computers and mobile devices.
Whenever an achievement is unlocked, a sound will play on the console and a pop-up will appear on screen notifying the user of their accomplishment. Achievements usually award the player between 5 and at least 100
.
Most games are required to include enough achievements to total at least 1000.
Achievements can be viewed from the guide on both Xbox 360 and Xbox One. When viewing achievements, the unlock requirements will be shown and on Xbox One, the unlock percentage will be shown. If an unlock percentage is below 10% it will become a rare achievement. Some games include secret achievements which hide the unlock requirements.
Rare achievements[]

Unlocking a rare achievement in Forza Horizon 3.
In 2016, rare achievements were added to all Xbox One games. An achievement becomes a rare achievement if it has a completion rate under 10%. Rather than the regular sound and pop-up playing, whenever a rare achievement is unlocked, the normal pop-up will play with a diamond displayed and a much more distinct noise. Rare achievements are distinguished by a small diamond icon that will appear when viewing the achievement. A rare achievement will be displayed on your screen for about 11 seconds when unlocked.
